To the world, the Igbo does not exist

I have spoken to several people about Nigerian ethnic groups, and the result is always the same. If you are Igbo you don't exist. In the Americas, if you mention Nigeria, most people think of Yoruba, not even knowing an Igbo people exist. I was on one of the DNA sites, reading the section on Nigeria. The only two ethnic groups discussed were Esan, and Yoruba. Igbos do not exist. It begs the question of why? I think the answer is very simple. Yoruba represent their culture everywhere they go. They are proud of their culture and represent it well. Igbos go from country to country and are hidden behind the name Christian. Yoruba culture is well known. People all over the world practice Yoruba Religion. Igbo, you don't exist. You left your culture Omenana and became Christian. No one did this to you, you did this to yourself. You gave up being Igbo for being Christian. So in times of crises you cry out for someone to save us, but save who? You are a ghost, a figment of the imagination. If you are Christian, then you believe in resurrection. Resurrect yourself from the dead with Omenana. Become a people again with culture, so you can take your place on the world stage. It can't happen any other way. You can choose to become a people again, or remain the ghost that admires everyone else and their respective cultures. It's time to add the Igbo voice to the other voices of the world.
