Want to learn Omenana? Approach Igbo elders over 90 years and Nz'rabbis.
By
Nz'rabbis are Igbos who spent years studying Omenana, and related subjects. They also committed to live like Nze (Nazarites) used to live in older Igbo society. They must strive to live holy & righteous lives. By their strivings they force Igbos back to the higher standards of morality we were known for. Our tradition of nso (avoidance of eating of unclean things) is being strengthened, courtesy of our Nz'rabbis. As you can see Nz'rabbis are reviving the Nazarite tradition among us. I wondered why my maternal grandmother was so strong and holy-and realized why after my mother told me, 'Nne chiri ozo nine nwanyi na echi, gokwanu Mmuo ofuma', (Grandmother took all the Nazarite vows, and practiced Omenana fully).
In addition to their job of studying with and guiding fellow Igbos on Omenana and the Hebrew Bible, they also advise on health related issues.
And they lead by example. Every Nz'rabbi has a regular job.
