HOW OMENANA ENSURES DIGNITY FOR THE IGBO WOMAN

Omenana ensures dignity for the Igbo woman by ensuring that she has freedom for wealth acquisition and the other freedoms associated with wealth acquisition in conformity with CHI UKWU's laws, statutes ordinances and commandments.
Igbo women under Omenana also run their own affairs unencumbered by the Igbo male folk. In Omenana, a new wife is shown her husband's own share of ancestral lands the very next day after the marriage. She becomes co-manager. Di we te Ji, Nwunye e we te ede... The phrase in Igbo means...the man contributes, and his wife contributes....thus, the Igbo woman is empowered by omenana to create and sustain her own wealth. This underlies Igbo belief that Igbo marriage is partnership to love one another, procreate, sustain the Igbo civilization and create sustainable wealth.
Society under Omenana was organized to enhance freedom of everyone. If you "keep" your wife, you can "enslave" her. Igbo families ensured that their daughters/sisters were well off/comfortable in their husbands homes so that they'll be secure. If you don't have your own wealth, you'll not be secure.
